Acceleration Academy (Full-time)

Opportunity Details

Acceleration Academy (Full-Time)

Acceleration Academy students can go from eighth grade to a Bachelor’s degree in five years!

Acceleration Academy (Full-Time) is a full school day opportunity during the academic year. Students in grades 9 through 12 take free University courses and earn three years of college credits towards any degree by high school graduation.

How it works:

  • STUDENT COLLABORATION: Students spend less time in class and more time in group study sessions;
  • CAREER EXPLORATION PROJECTS: Students participate in fun, hands-on projects led by practicing scientists and engineers;
  • COMMUNITY BUILDING: Students participate in weekly lunch meetings and fun, social activities.

ANSEP will cover the cost of all activities and the tuition and fees for all ANSEP-approved courses.

The school year has already started. Can I still submit an application?
Yes. We are able to process an application for the upcoming semester if there are still spots available.

I did not meet the minimum math and/or English placement requirements. What should I do?
Students who do not meet the minimum math and/or English placement requirements should still submit their application. Students will be offered the opportunity to participate in Acceleration Ready Math and/or English sessions to improve their scores and meet the minimum placement requirements.

I am currently a homeschool student. Who should complete my teacher recommendation forms?
Either your academic advisor or your parent/guardian may complete the forms. If your parent/guardian is to complete the forms, they should be completed as unbiased as possible.

My math/science/English teacher has completed a sealed paper/PDF recommendation form and I would like to submit an online application. What should I do?
If your teacher(s) are okay with the student seeing their responses on the recommendation forms, you may unseal the forms to be submitted online.

How much does it cost to attend the Acceleration Academy?
All ANSEP pre-college opportunities are free of charge to students and their families. ANSEP covers all costs associated with attending Acceleration Academy, which include tuition, fees, and class materials.

What classes will I be taking?
All participating students will enroll into university courses that count for both high school graduation and credits towards a bachelor’s degree at the university. ANSEP will aid in selecting the appropriate courses through academic advising appointments and will co-enroll with other ANSEP Acceleration Academy students.

What is the typical course load for an Acceleration Academy student?
Students will begin by taking 3 university courses each fall and spring semester in their first year. Students may have the opportunity to take more university courses as they demonstrate the ability to be successful in their university courses.

Will my University of Alaska credits transfer to other Universities?
The University of Alaska system campuses (UAA, UAF, and UAS) are all nationally accredited. To transfer your University of Alaska system credits, it is suggested that you contact the University you intend to enroll into to determine what the next steps are.
