Acceleration Academy (Kotzebue) is a full school day opportunity during the academic year hosted on the UAF Chukchi campus for North West Arctic Borough School District (NWABSD). NWABSD students will enroll in university courses that count towards high school graduation and any university degree program, participate in group study sessions facilitated by other ANSEP students, participate in hands-on projects led by practicing scientists and engineers, and participate in weekly community building and social activities. ANSEP will cover the cost of all ANSEP activities and the tuition and fees for ANSEP-approved courses.

Spring Application Deadlines:
Application Deadline: All applications must be submitted to ANSEP by November 15th, 2024.
Final Documentation Deadline: All application documentation (transcripts, etc.) must be submitted to ANSEP by December 6th, 2024.
Step 1: Complete and Submit ANSEP application

- 500-word essay on “Why you are ready to be successful in college courses” and “How do you plan to contribute to the future of Alaska?“

- Completed English Teacher Recommendation Form

FAQs
Will this opportunity be held in-person or via distance delivery?
This opportunity is scheduled to be hosted in-person.
The school year has already started. Can I still submit an application?
Yes. We are able to process an application for the upcoming semester if there are still spots available.
I did not meet the minimum math and/or English placement requirements. What should I do?
Students who do not meet the minimum math and/or English placement requirements should still submit their application. Students will be offered the opportunity to participate in Acceleration Ready Math and/or English sessions to improve their scores and meet the minimum placement requirements.
I am currently a homeschool student. Who should complete my teacher recommendation forms?
Either your academic advisor or your parent/guardian may complete the forms. If your parent/guardian is to complete the forms, they should be completed as unbiased as possible.
My math/science/English teacher has completed a sealed paper/PDF recommendation form and I would like to submit an online application. What should I do?
If your teacher(s) are okay with the student seeing their responses on the recommendation forms, you may unseal the forms to be submitted online.
How much does it cost to attend the Acceleration Academy?
All ANSEP pre-college opportunities are free of charge to students and their families. ANSEP covers all costs associated with attending Acceleration Academy, which include tuition, fees, and class materials.
What classes will I be taking?
All participating students will enroll into university courses that count for both high school graduation and credits towards a bachelor’s degree at the university. ANSEP will aid in selecting the appropriate courses through academic advising appointments and will co-enroll with other ANSEP Acceleration Academy students.
What is the typical course load for an Acceleration Academy student?
Students will begin by taking 3 university courses each fall and spring semester in their first year. All university courses will count towards high school graduation requirements and a bachelor’s degree at the university. Students may have the opportunity to take more university courses as they demonstrate the ability to be successful in their university courses.
Will my University of Alaska credits transfer to other Universities?
The University of Alaska system campuses (UAA, UAF, and UAS) are all nationally accredited. To transfer your University of Alaska system credits, it is suggested that you contact the University you intend to enroll into to determine what the next steps are.
Can I still attend Acceleration Academy if I intend to enroll into another University outside of Alaska?
Yes. All students who are interested in going to college, regardless of which University you intend to enroll into, are encouraged to apply for the Acceleration Academy.
What does a typical day look like for an Acceleration Academy student?
The typical class and study session hours are from 9:00am to 3:00pm Monday through Friday. Student’s courses, recitations, study hours, break times will fit into these hours, however, there may be some university courses that are held outside of these hours.
How do I enroll in the school district once accepted into ANSEP?
Acceleration Academy (Anchorage)
Students in 9th and 10th grade will enroll into the Family Partnership Charter School as long as space is available. If space is not available at the Family Partnership Charter School, then ANSEP may assist with enrolling the student in another homeschool program. Students in 11th and 12th grade will enroll into the Alaska Middle College School (AMCS).
Acceleration Academy (Mat-Su)
All 9th through 12th grade students will enroll with the Matanuska-Susitna Borough School District (MSBSD) Mat-Su Middle College School (MSMCS) through ParentVUE.
Acceleration Academy (Bethel)
All 9th through 12th grade students will enroll with your LKSD school . Enrollment instructions will be provided to all accepted students.
Details and reminders for enrollment for all locations will be sent to students prior to the Fall or Spring semester start dates.
When will I know if I am accepted into the program?
Applicants will be notified of their application status within one month of submitting a complete application packet. Academic advising and completing enrollment forms will begin immediately for accepted students.
Do I have to be Alaska Native to apply to ANSEP Acceleration Academy?
No. All students of all races may apply to Acceleration Academy.
Do I have to be interested in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) degrees program or careers to apply to ANSEP Acceleration Academy?
No. Students interested in any degree program or career may apply to Acceleration Academy.
